By completing this project, I have learned more about the bearded dragon than what I knew before. I chose the bearded dragon because I was interested in purchasing a beardie as a pet. However, I would not have found out new information about a bearded dragon if I had not taken this Biology course and completed this project. For instance, I learned that bearded dragons are eukaryotes because they have a cell membrane in their cells. I also learned that the eye color is an example of a normal dominant gene in bearded dragons. Although I had a difficult time finding the information that I needed to complete this organism project, such as the above two examples, this information was very interesting to me.
Mostly, I enjoyed working on this project because I learned new things about bearded dragons. I really enjoyed looking up the information and using it to build my website. I also liked being creative with my drawings. Drawing is a way that I relax. However, something that was not relaxing was going to my dad’s work after school and staying there for hours to complete each section of the project. Unfortunately, we cannot get internet at our home. And, despite my family having to wait for me to finish each section, they did support me. For that, I am very appreciative and I did enjoy learning all I needed to know and more about beardies.
The two sections that where the hardest and most challenging for me were the reproduction and the response sections. I found that the reproduction section was challenging because there wasn’t a lot of information on the normal dominance, incomplete dominance and the sex-link traits of a bearded dragon. This meant that I had to do a lot of research and reading in between the lines. The response section was challenging because I couldn’t really find the ancestors and the adaptations of a bearded dragon. I had to look really hard to find them. When I did find something on the adaptations and the ancestors, I was relieved.
The two sections that I enjoyed learning about the most were the synthesis and the organism interaction sections. I enjoyed the synthesis section of my project the most because I learned the three things that a bearded dragon makes within its body. I also like this section because I got to draw a picture of when an enzyme helps the bearded dragon put two things together. I enjoyed the organism interaction section because I learned how the bearded dragon engages in parasitism, mutualism, and commensalism relationships with other organisms in its environment. Overall, I thought that this project was informative and interesting because it helped me learn more about bearded dragons and it made me want a beardie even more.
